Enhancement of mammary tumor formation in mice by a cytostatic drug, melphalan.
نویسنده
چکیده
Melphalan (L-phenylalanine mustard), a cytostatic drug used in treatment of human breast cancer, was injected into mice bearing preneoplastic hyperplastic alveolar nodule mammary outgrowth line D2. Melphalan, doses of either 2.5 or 5.0 mg/kg, markedly enhanced tumor formation in its mammary nodule outgrowth line. Samples of nodule outgrowths in untreated mice produced 13% tumors by 9 months after transplantation, whereas nodule outgrowths in melphalan-treated mice produced 57 and 85% mammary tumors in the lower and higher dose groups, respectively.

quently serially transplanted in syngeneic mice. In their studies, combinations of any 2 drugs involving L-PAM, CTX, and 5-FU were more effective in inhibiting tumor growth than were any of the drugs used individually. The addition of C. parvum to any combination of drugs showed the same effects as the combination alone, although C. parvum en hanced the effects of drugs given singly. Since the ...

Background & Objective: Invasive Aspergillosis is a fatal infection in immunocompromised patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the interaction of infectious with Aspergillus and tumor on immune response and cytokine network in Aspergillus infected tumor-bearing mice. Materials and Methods: Mice were implanted by sterile pieces of mouse mammary tumor and then infected by Aspergillus co...
متن کاملTumor subpopulation interactions affecting melphalan sensitivity in palpable mouse mammary tumors.
Paired mixtures of melphalan-sensitive and relatively insensitive tumor cell subpopulation lines, originally derived from the same mammary tumor, were injected s.c. into syngeneic mice. When tumors were palpable, the mice were treated with melphalan at doses shown to be effective against the melphalan-sensitive subpopulations. Sensitivity was assessed by the loss of colony-forming ability of tu...
متن کاملVirus-dependent cytostatic activity to mammary tumor cells of lymphocytes from normal mice.
A cytostasis assay has been used to study the natural immunity of mice to murine mammary tumor virus (MTV). Spleen cells from adults of all strains tested were found to be cytostatic to a variety of MTV-positive mammary tumor cell lines. Newborn spleen cells were unreactive in the same cytostasis assay. The degree of reactivity to the target cells was greater in spleen cell preparations from lo...
متن کاملApproaches to defining the mechanism of enhancement by Fluosol-DA 20% with carbogen of melphalan antitumor activity.
Fluosol-DA with carbogen (95% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide) breathing can increase the efficacy of melphalan. Addition of Fluosol-DA to treatment with melphalan leads to a greater increase in tumor growth delay under conditions of air breathing and carbogen breathing than does the fat emulsion Intralipid. The ability of melphalan to kill tumor cells increased with dose over the range of drug ex...
